French Bronze & Marble Cupid Mantle Clock Louis XV Lemerie Charpentier, 1885

About the Item

A very fine French, 19th century Louis XV style gilt bronze and white marble figural mantel clock by Lemerie Carpentier Bronzier. The finely chased ormolu body, with its original two-tone mercury gilt bronze is centered with a circular opaline glass dial with applied Roman numerals and partially hand inscribed '….Charpentier Bronz..' (Lemerle-Carpentier Bronzier). Clock is mounted by a playful silvered, seated, Cupid with his bow and arrows at the ready. Cupid sits atop a carved marble column & carved base mounted with applied ormolu bronze armature. All raised on token shaped ormolu bronze feet. The movement is a key wind pendulum movement marked “Charpentier Ft De Bronzes 564 A PARIS” with its original key! Movement runs but not guaranteed to keep time, it does have a “service sticker” from 2013 on the back and it’s all there. The condition of this clock is stellar with strong original REAL (no gold paint) ormolu and nearly perfect marble edges with only the slightest of fritting. I’d say condition is a solid 9/10, you don’t kind them this nice this big and heavy. Clock dates from about 1885.
