French Gilt Empire Claude Galle Clock By Claude Gallé, 19th Century

About the Item

Rare and beautiful gilt bronze clock with rotating dial made for the 1807 Exhibition after a composition by Claude Gallé,regarded as one of the best bronziers of the late Louis XVI and Empire periods. . Gilded and green bronze, a green marble base and two women, symbols of Liberty, hold a headband with the inscription 'L'oubi du Temps'. A woman holds a wreath in one hand and hides with a light curtain the hours that appear in the terminal window, whose upper part is surrounded by a double laurel branch. The three figures represent the Hours, in Greek mythology, a group of goddesses who resided over the seasons daughters of Zeus and Themis, personified the order of the world: Eunomia represents the laws, Irene represents peace and Dice justice.
