French Mantel Clock of Empire Period of "Borne" Form

About the Item

Attractive french Empire clock in patinated bronze and ormolu of milestone or "borne" form. Having very fine applied ormolu mounts to the front and side of the case with also a fine ormolu bezel decorated with forget-me-not flowers and ribbons surrounding the gilt bronze dial. The dial with Roman numerals and blued steel Breguet hands. Movement signed Hemon a Paris for Claude Hemon who was apprenticed in 1770 and was working at the Rue St-Martin between 1812 and 1820. 8 day movement countwheel strike system striking the hours and halves on a bell and regulated by a silk suspended pendulum. France circa 1818-25.
