French Porcelain and Ormolu Mantel Clock

About the Item

French Porcelain and ormolu mantel clock with gilded toupe feet supporting a raised plinth with an inset blue decorated panel below gilded acanthus moulding. Turquoise porcelain waisted case with hand painted panel featuring a courting couple with their dog in a rural landscape. Enamel dial with Roman numerals, original gilded hands, hand painted scene to the center featuring heavenly cherubs signed ‘Litherland, Davies’ the case surmounted by a beautifully decorated urn with ormolu mounts. Eight-day French movement of fine quality with outside count wheel striking the hours and halves on a silvered bell, circa 1820 This fine clock rests on its original wooden gilded base which has been recovered. ‘Watchmakers and clockmakers of the World’ by Brian Loomes lists Litherland, Davies & Co as working at Brownlow Hill, Liverpool 1816, Church Street, Liverpool 1816-1834, Bold Street, Liverpool 1832-1877. Also imported clocks signed Paris.
