French Restauration Period Gilt Bronze and Cut-Glass Mantel Clock

About the Item

This antique French mantel clock is crafted from ornate gilt bronze and gilttering cut-glass and dates from the early 19th century. The clock sits on a rectangular ormolu base set on four feet with two levels of cut glass above, each level set on a gilt bronze plinth with egg and dart ornamentation. The gilt bronze clock dial sits above the lower section of the clock, and features white circular enamel plaques with Arabic numerals and a gilt bronze border decorated with flowers. The clock movement is stamped Ch. Leroy a Paris. Behind the dial there are two cut glass columns in the shape of swan necks, both surmounted by gilt bronze swan heads. The entire clock case is surmounted by a gilt bronze bust of a classical female figure, set on a gilt bronze support with rods and decorated with a rose.
