Regency Painted Papier Mache Mantle Clock
About the Item
The waisted sides surmounted by a brass urn finial, above a rectangular base raised on bracket feet, decorated with braided border and depictions of floral swags, garland, and hunt trophies, the porcelain dial with Roman numerals and Arabic numerals at the quarter mark, a hinged back door revealing the clock mechanism, with pendulum. Old label to door interior reads "Strickland, Japanner and Transparent Painter to their Royal Highness the Prince of Wales... London" with the royal coat of arms. With an old label from W&J Sloane, New York, the prominent furniture store which catered to the prominent, including the White House, and the wealthy, including the Rockefellers and Vanderbilts.
