French 19th Century Louis XIV Style Ormolu Cartel Clock
About the Item
A most impressive and high quality French 19th century Louis XIV st. ormolu cartel clock. The clock is raised on its original wall mounting stand with a lovely foliate bottom finial and elegant scrolled tapered movements. Adorned with finely chased acanthus leaves and lovely rosettes that center an intricately detailed Bannière, in a striking satin and burnished finish. The striking clock is raised on topie shaped feet below beautiful scrolled legs and a most decorative and richly chased pierced foliate central family crest. The enameled dial displays charming pierced hands and is framed within a fine mottled border with elegant rosettes. At each side is a richly chased mask of a handsome bearded man, amidst rosettes, a lattice design and a fine fish scale pattern. Above is an additional finely detailed mask of a maiden within foliate, a rich acanthus leaf design and lovely foliate finial. All original gilt throughout.
