Robert Ventury Cuckoo Clock for Alessi, Italy, 1988
About the Item
Brilliant yellow and green colors that pop in this postmodern cuckoo clock by Robert Venturi for Alesia, made in Italy in 1988.
A bellows operated cuckoo melody plays at the turn of every hour, a little door opening to reveal a minimal steel bird. A nostalgic timepiece that taps into the zeitgeist of its time, the contrast of bold colors chimes well with the witty little bird announcing each hour. Of course, as cuckoos do, there is a mechanical clasp that you can set to silence this bird for night hours or any time that total silence is necessary.
The craftsmanship can be seen through the back door, where mechanical clock wheels turn in seamless choreography.
