Vintage Continental Italian Leather Desk Set
About the Item
A vintage Continental (most likey Italian) gilt tooled and embossed leather and marbleized paper five piece desk accessories set, decorated in gilt armorial motif with royal crown over lion rampant on stripped shield, first half of the 20th century.
The set comprising:
Portfolio style desk pad mat;
20" Long, 14" Wide
Stationary letter box, leather covered wooden construction with hinged slat lid and patinated brass latch, opening to reveal marbleized paper lined divided interior;
9" High, 10.25" Wide, 6" Deep
Inkstand, with double inkwell holders flanking a central writing instrument pen tray with glass insert, includes two crystal inkwells, verso marked xx;
2.75" High, 15" Wide, 4.75" Deep
Waste basket, octagonal form with ring handles;
12.5" High, 11.75" Wide, 11.75" Deep
Ink blotter, with relief decorated heavy solid brass handle and well shaped body;
3" High, 6" Wide, 3.25" Deep
Over time, the gilt embellished tan leather has developed a highly desirable rich, warm patina and amber like coloring, heavily worn, the distressed leather presents wonderfully with wear and dark staining throughout, that does not detract from the display but only adds to the sophisticated antique character and overall elegant warmth.
