A Huanghuali Seal Chest (Guanpixiang)
About the Item
Originally used to store various seals, personal implements, and treasured objects. The hinged top lifts back, exposing a shallow compartment. The two doors, with matched center panels, open out to reveal four drawers of various sizes. All sit slightly recessed upon a rectangular plinth with a foliate carved front apron.
Huanghuali ("yellow flowering pear wood"), a type of exotic rosewood, has long been revered as one of the most desirable woods in the Chinese furniture making tradition.
