Mel's studio was in St. Louis, but sold his work throughout the world. The book Brother Mel: A Lifetime of Making Art, was released in 2009 by Anne Brown. Well-educated (he got a master's in Fine Art from Notre Dame) and well-traveled (he studied and traveled extensively in Europe), Mel became the first Marianist to take on art as a vocation, in the late 1960s. Italian glass master Pino Signoretto (1944-2017) signed "Lovers" sculpture with the Scavo technique, circa 1970s. Pino was a student of the master Alfredo Barbini, at 19 of age, he was already a Glass Master. Scavo technique gives it a texture as if it was ancient Roman glass, see description below. Courtesy of Urbanglass: One of the most famous and widely hailed glass masters in the world, Pino Signoretto, known for his incredible facility in sculpting from hot glass, died at the age of 74 on December 30th, 2017.
