"Cali" Woven Panel by Christopher Broyles

About the Item

Unique woven panel by Panama-based American artist Christopher Broyles, b. 1979. Broyles’s process is intensive and fastidious and his work is evocative of that rigor in its examination of the interrelationship of color, line and plane. This sculpture is a three-dimensional expression of the artist's earlier string paintings. Using fibers of various qualities, the artist weaves layered matrices of complex colors into frames. He calls the three-dimensional units that result panels. Broyles’s latest panels are his most studied. They bring the cool precision of metal to his medium. The earlier frames were made of wood. The introduction of Industrial materials heightens the uniqueness of the forms to convey a graphic sentiment that is bold and energetic. Each of Broyles’s works is unique, signed and dated by the artist. Broyles produces site-specific works on a commission basis. Measures: 24" W x 18" H.
