Hiroyuki Nishimura
Hiroyuki Nishimura uses reclaimed wood and scavenged materials to produce outwardly sculptural, provocative furniture and decor. Harvesting felled and abandoned trees from the Shonan and Izu Peninsula areas of Japan, Nishimura chooses to work in the medium that speaks to him.
While much of the wood Nishimura reclaims is largely deemed unsuitable for conventional furniture or for any other building projects, his proficiency with sculpture proves otherwise, with the artist-designer bringing new life to the material and creating interesting bookcases, side tables and magazine racks through hand-carving techniques and the occasional use of a chainsaw. Nishimura works with the shape of any given fallen tree — he rarely works against the natural form of his chosen material — and creates works that hold a primal appeal and often resemble ancient totemic artifacts.
Born in Osaka, Japan, Nishimura attended the Tokyo University of the Arts in 1986. After graduating, he began working as a prep school teacher, while also pursuing his love of art through sculpting wood. In 2008, Nishimura opened his own studio Zougei Inc.
Nishimura has won several awards and performed many solo exhibitions throughout his career. His numerous accolades include the Silver Award at the 8th Kajima Sculpture Competition in 2004 and the Grand Prize Award at the 10th Oita Asian Sculpture Exhibition in 2010. His many exhibitions include solo shows at the Sekiguchi Art Museum in Tokyo and the GEM Art Gallery of Tokyo.

- Black Forest Style Hall Umbrella Stand or Garden Bear Sculpture in Cast ConcreteLocated in Lisse, NLNever seen before, concrete Black Forest style umbrella stand. This is another one of our recent rare and great finds. We were given 1stdibs in buying several unique antiques and works of art from a lady who had to move to a smaller home due to old age. This concrete Black Forest Style bear was purchased 26 years ago from an antique dealer in the east of Holland (by her late husband) and it had been in their hallway ever since. Since we have never seen a concrete Black Forest bear before, we have no idea about the exact age. What we can see, is that the original bear stand was beautifully carved. Why someone took the time and effort to make a mold (which is very time consuming and often costly) and then only make one cast in concrete copy, is a mystery to us. However, we are pleased by that also, because that would make this old (or maybe even antique) concrete bear...Category

- Magazine Rack Sculpture Contemporary Organic Solid Wood GoldBy Las AnimasLocated in Seville, ESMAA, SCULPTURE MAGAZINE - HOLDER Hand made in red pine solid wood (from sustainably managed national forests). Carefully selected, hand cut, planed, carved and assembled in our workshop. Gold leaf hand finished using traditional methods. The acid and varnishes used to fix gold to the wooden structure act on this living material, giving it a unique patina. The result is an sculptural organic work of art, of monumental and brutalism semblance, apparent simplicity and decadent elegance. The processes involved in the creation of this piece are completely hand crafted. Each piece is numbered out of a 20 units limited edition. We developed this magazine holder to celebrate the first anniversary...Category
