Jörg F. Zimmermann large honeycomb glass sculpture

About the Item

A impressively large clear glass sculpture with a green/yellow/cognac glass core, clear glass overlay and metal mesh (honeycomb) inside. Creator is Jorg F. Zimmerman, estimated ca. 2000. The piece is large and would look wonderful as a centerpiece, on a large pedestal or even on the floor. The design is reminiscent of sea shells, cocoons or even alien lifeforms. It's a very original and exceptional, even peculiar piece, in excellent condition. Some pictures on an Eileen Gray table added to give a better idea of the large size and scale of the sculpture. Zimmermann is well known for his artistic glass objects, which have organic, natural looking structures. These natural structures are the basic idea in Zimmermann's work. Ideas for his designs can be found in corals, fruits, leaves or ice. Zimmermann has developed numerous so-called "Honeycomb objects", glass sculptures with either hidden or visible a (metal) honeycomb like structure. Zimmermann has received several awards, and his work is shown in many glass museums all over the world. Jörg F. Zimmermann (born 1940 in Uhingen, Germany), is a German glass artist. Zimmermann was studying glass design at the Fachhochschule für Gestaltung in Schwäbisch Gmünd. Zimmermann started working as self-employed Industrial-Designer ever since 1976. From 1976 he was also teaching at the State Academy of Fine Arts Stuttgart glass arts.
