Wall Sculpture in Bronze 47 Skulls Entangled, Rat King, 1970s
About the Item
A studio piece open to a lot of interpretations. The media is cast bonze with a dark brown patina. It depicts 47 rat skulls connected almost melted together (in appearance) via tubes to its backside. The number 47 has in it self a lot going on. Its a prime, an Einstein Prime, a Lucas, Keith and a Carol Number, its the atomic weight of Titanium, the atomic number of silver and its used to designate to diffrent astrological bodies. However it is perhaps more likely that the anonymous artist who executed this piece has/had a darker perspective. Rattenkönig or a rat's nest/king is a phrase used to describe phenomena that are entangled - excessively complicated bordering on unsolvable. Skulls of rats also symbolize decay, the plaque and nihilism. You be the judge. A piece unique very open to any suggestions within the realm of both sanity, insanity. and every state of mind in between. Measurements: length: 38 cm, wide: 23.3/13 cm, depth: 6 cm. Suitable for wall mounting/display.
