Alessandro Pianon for Vistosi, Pulcino, 1962

About the Item

Alessandro Pianon for Vistosi, Pulcino, 1962 A Beautiful wedge shaped "Pulcini" bird glass sculpture in blue with dark blue decorative spiral, applied yellow, white and blue eyes, Resting on detachable hand shaped copper legs. Pianon’s Pulcini series was released in 1962 consisting of five birds. The bodies were made of coloured glass, the legs of copper wire and eyes of circular floret canes, Each bird was hand blown into a mould and finished by hand. Some were then decorated with murrines, slices of multicoloured glass. Some had textured surfaces applied after shaping. The metal sockets for the legs were set in clear glass applied after the making of the body. Each individual bird was unique.
This complicated production process meant that the “Pulcini” birds were made in limited numbers and very expensive. When first released in 1962 they were only made to order and remain very rare today.
