    Beautiful 20th century Art Deco Period Bronze "Hunting Dogs" by Clovis Masson (1838 – 1913, France),circa 1930, France This Signed Sculpture by the French Artist Clovis Edmond Masson (1838-1913), is a spirited depiction of two hunting Dogs. The 'Hunting Dogs' is in moulded Bronze and depicts a Pointer and an Irish Setter set on a rectangular Marble Base. Extraordinary details of the dog's expression and coats showcase the high quality of this bronze. The bronze and marble present in very fine condition with superb patination. Very Heavy. No damage. Masson was a pupil of the famous French animal bronzier, Antoine-Louis Barye. He exhibited in the Paris Salon (Salon des Beaux Arts) in 1867 – 1881. More than 50 pieces of sculpture were exhibited by Masson thru 1909. Examples of his sculptures can be found in the Municipal Museum in Nimes. In early 1907, King Chulalongkorn of Thailand, known as Rama V, decided to erect a monument to his glory on a vast empty esplanade on which the parliament would soon stand (not to be completed until 1915). Rama V sailed for Europe in 1907. Chulalongkorn had the idea early on to erect an equestrian statue. His visit to the Palace of Versailles in the spring of 1907 finally convinced him. Like that of Louis XIV, whose statue is in the main courtyard of the castle, Rama V would also leave his mark in Bangkok with his equestrian statue.
