Early 20th century English butchers shop display figure.
We share what we love, and we love this early 20th century papier Mache and wood composite figure. Recently acquired from a butcher’s shop in Lancashire. We have been informed that it originally sat in the shop window holding a wooden tray that slotted into the stomach section, this tray would hold items that the butcher had on special offer that day. A wonderful object with lots of natural age and character.
Size of inches: H 21” x W 9” x D 10”
Condition: Aged
Origin: United Kingdom
Age: early 20th century.
Completely solid in structure and form, Natural aging across all surfaces. Some of original paint has flaked of and we assume this item has had a number of layers of paint added over the years. The base is made from wood and supports the pig with it leaning forward. With wear across all the surfaces but a solid object.
