Pair of Early 20th-Century Brass Greyhound Waterloo Cup Winners Sculptures

About the Item

Complement your office shelving with this pair of dog Waterloo Cup winners. Crafted in the UK circa 1910 and built of brass, the dogs hold significant historical value, as they represent esteemed champions of the prestigious Waterloo Cup. Colonel North's Fullerton, a legendary canine athlete, triumphed in the cup an impressive four times between 1889 and 1892, solidifying its status as a true champion. Furthermore, Farndon Ferry, another exceptional dog, claimed victory in the cup once in 1902. Each figure is in excellent condition commensurate with age and use, and features a rich patinated brass finish throughout. Measures: 10.75”W x 1.25”D x 8.5”H

    Place this tall patinated sculpture on a console or a buffet! Crafted in Belgium in 1932, the metal statue depicts a young boy eating his bowl of soup with dog watching with envy. The figurine has numerous marking to prove authentication. It is signed on the base by the artist "Rousseau". The sculpted figurine is in excellent condition commensurate with age and use, and adorns a rich patinated finish. Small dent on the dog's back (see last picture). Victor Rousseau (1865-1954) was a Belgian sculptor and medalist. Rousseau was of Walloon heritage and descended from a line of stonemasons. He began carving stone at age 11, working at the site of the Law Courts of Brussels, designed by architect Joseph Poelaert. He later apprenticed under sculptor Georges Houtstont, and took classes at the Académie Royale des Beaux-Arts in Brussels. A winning competition entry for the Prix Godecharle in 1890 gave Rousseau the chance to travel in England, Italy, and two full years in France, after which he returned to the atelier of Belgian sculptor and teacher Charles van der Stappen...
