Roberto Camozzo for Wyland, Tiger Hunting Shark on Base Murano Glass 90s, Signed

About the Item

When I saw these pieces I was so happy to have found them as I knew the history of these wonderful pieces very well. There are great maestros and artist from Murano, some are very well known Seguso, Barbini, Tagliapietra. Roberto Camozzo is instead one that very few know. He and his partner Elio Raffaelli were the silent right and left arm of Livio Seguso. They become independent after Bisazza took over the company. They continued the style and the massiccio (sculptural) glass tradition from their Livio Seguso experience and worked for many artists. It was at the turn of the Millennium that Oggetti was appointed by Wyland Galleries and Robert Wyland to make a collection of sculptures in Glass. I recall Roberto Camozzo and Elio Raffaelli making giant humpback whales with calf in the "First Breathe" based on Robert Wyland design. In this particular case the decision on how making the tiger effect, that was decided to be silver with clear glass stripes over. The artist view, attention to details and anatomy, ability in mastering the casing of colors generated probably the best marine collection in glass. Sharks were produced in Murano but were mostly diving or jumping dolphins with a shark face. These were on a total different field. Take a look at the finesse of this piece. Silver leaf over acciaio gray (the color that Livio Segusto last abandoned in his search of purity). The gill detail is incredible.

  • Seguso for Bisazza White Scavo Corroso Murano Glass Vase 1993 Signed
    By Bisazza Vetro, Livio Seguso
Located in Tavarnelle val di Pesa, Florence
Unique large scavo vase. Here Bisazza used a theme that was popular at the end of the 1980s, the native American art. In particular the Navaho pottery. Scavo is made using a scavo technique of adding minerals over the hot shaped glass and a corroso finish that is to add acid with sawdust, to stay in place. The combination is of a great antique texture. Vase Jug with two handles. This collection belongs to the Livio Seguso production made under Bisazza ownership for a small period of the early 1990s. Livio continued his artist career with the freedom and the free state of mind that came from not owning a company. Similar path of Luciano Vistosi.
