Western Bronze Titled "Deep Catch" by Herb Mignery

About the Item

Condition: Good vintage condition, unaltered, some imperfections (Verdigris around horses’ ears and some dust) Material: Bronze (sculpture) with wood base that swivels 360 degrees "Deep Catch" Bronze by Herb Mignery is dated 1989 with an edition of 20 produced. The base is wood with a name plate. The base turns 360 degrees. Herb Mignery grew up on a Nebraska ranch, where his family had lived over a hundred years. He was a real, working cowboy. One can see these roots in Mignery's work. Mignery has worked in almost every artistic medium in the course of his career. In 1973, however, he first experimented with the medium of bronze, a medium which he made his own. His horses and riders, their gear and tackle, their motion and focus have become a trademark known by an admiring public and by fellow artists alike. Mignery has been recognized by members of his profession for 25 years. He was inducted into the Cowboy Artists of America in 1984. He became a member of the National Sculpture Society in 1996, in 2001 was elected a Fellow, and the following year he joined the Society's Board of Directors.

  • A Bronze Wall Sculpture of a Bomber Jacket by Scott Hanson
    Located in Lambertville, NJ
A unique patinated bronze sculpture in the form of a 1940's leather bomber jacket hanging on a wall mounted coat rack. The 1940's bomber jacket. It is one of the few items that has really transcended both fashion and trends. People are wearing these jackets today in the same way they have for the last six decades. It's a symbol of freedom, of the rebel in us, or a certain kind of social stigma, a certain attitude. Hanson chooses to isolate and immortalize a man's leather jacket. The choice becomes a comment on the power in our culture of image per se. A comment on the ascendance of personal style and image, via our possessions and fashion, to a consuming culture value. Seemingly casually tossed over a hook, yet frozen there in bronze, the jacket evokes an entire range of masculine stereotypes celebrated by the media-cowboys, mavericks and rebels of our time. The open road, macho bravado, rugged individuality, sex appeal. Yet the presence of this lone jacket equally evokes the very personal, if anonymous, history of its wearer. Like the cast-form-life sculpture of George Segal, it expresses mystery, even poignancy, of its owners absence. As in much of Hanson's art, this culture manages both to critique and also to value such material icons of our culture. Scott Hanson...

  • Bronze figural torchere titled: "Music" by Jules Felix Coutan
    Located in Los Angeles, CA
This very fine life-size patinated bronze figural torchere modeled as a classically clad female musician holding a mandolin and a torch. This symbolic representation of Music, falls within Coutan’s allegorical work. The sculpture stands on a period carved wood pedestal. Inscribed on base: Coutan, Thiébaut Frères, Fondeurs. Total Height: 101″ (259 cm) Bronze height: 67″ (170.1 cm) Pedestal Height: 34" (86.3 cm) Jules-Félix Coutan (22 September 1848 – 23 February 1939) is considered to be one of the most gifted French sculptors and designers of the 19th and early 20th centuries Coutan studied under the renowned Pierre-Jules Cavelier at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Paris, and was awarded the Prix de Rome in 1872; after his return to Paris he executed the fountain group France Bearing the Torch of Civilization for the Exposition Universelle (1889), one of the two prominent sculptural commissions for the Exposition grounds.[1] Later he taught at the École des Beaux-Arts from 1900, where he expressed his disdain for the researches of Rodin— fumiste—[2] and the Impressionist sculptors who followed him. Coutan was elected to the Académie des Beaux-Arts in 1905.[3] Coutan is best known in the United States for the sculptural group above the entrance to Grand Central Terminal in New York City. For Grand Central Terminal, Coutan was contracted to provide a quarter-size scale plaster model of the three-figure allegorical Transportation group, which he developed from 1911 through 1914. The carving was performed by the William Bradley & Son of Long Island City.[4] Among Coutan's students were Hippolyte Lefèbvre, Raymond Delamarre...
