Antique Samson Porcelain Figurine of a Nobleman or Prince

About the Item

A fine antique porcelain figurine or bust. By Samson Edmé et Cie. In the form of a bust of a man dressed in colorful finery with a frilled collar and feathered hat. Set atop a white plinth with gilt highlights. Marked to the reverse of the plinth with a Samson blue underglaze mark. The bottom of the plinth is marked with a gold anchor indicating this bust as a 1885-1920s reproduction of an 18th Century design from a Chelsea porcelain manufactory. Simply a wonderful antique bust! Selling Platform: Dibs Date: Late 19th or Early 20th Century Overall Condition: It is in overall good, as-pictured, used estate condition. Condition Details: There is what appears to be a ground chip to the plinth foot, a bit of paint loss to the paint to the hair to the right side of the face, and a firing flaw to the brim of the hat and the feather. Otherwise, there are some fine & light surface scratches and other signs of expected light wear consistent with age. Maker: Samson et Cie Marks: Marked to the reverse of the plinth with a Samson blue star mark and to the bottom of the plinth with a gold anchor. Measurements: Height: ca. 5 3/4 in.
