Adam Dworski Sculptural Studio Pottery Figure of a Lady

About the Item

A very fine mid-century studio pottery sculptural figure of a lady by renowned potter Adam Dworski (Croatian, 1917-2011) and probably made in his early days at the Wye Pottery in Wales. Adam Dworski started the Wye Pottery in the 1950’s having settled in Wales and produced unique decorative pieces alongside more domestic style wares. This particular figure is a wonderful example of his more sought after creative work and he provided pieces to Coventry Cathedral and made a black Madonna for Coretta Scott King, widow of Martin Luther King. This small sized sculpture is mounted on a brown glazed rectangular pottery base and is formed in a slightly abstract classical style of a standing lady wearing flowing garments. The figure is made in white clay with a satin marble effect glazed finish. And is not signed. Provenance: acquired by a collector from the Peter Dingley Gallery in Stratford on Avon with gallery label to the base. In good condition.
