Alexandre Descatoire, Fauna Terracotta, Early 20th Century

About the Item

Terracotta sculpture depicting a fauna with a large beard, pointed ears and nascent horns. Terracotta signed by French artist Alexandre Descatoire (1874-1949) Alexandre Descatoire studied with André-Louis-Adolphe Laoust and then with Gabriel-Jules Thomas at the Beaux-arts in Paris; he became a teacher of this university in 1934 He won 2nd grand prix of Rome in 1902 and became a member of the Academie Beaux-arts in 1939. Member of Salon des artistes français, he has won many medals, and even a scholarship to travel in 1905 His creations are mostly dedicated to WW1 soldiers and can be seen all over France He was honnoured with "chevalier de la Légion d'honneur "in 1938 Some chips (see photos).
