Andreé Guerval French Art Deco Bronze & Onyx Sculpture of Chysis / Woman & Urn

About the Item

A fine French bronze sculpture of the Greek figure 'Chysis'. By Andrée Guerval - a pseudonym for Raymonde Guerbe (1894 - 1995). Guerbe was both the student and wife of the famous French sculptor Pierre Le Fagueys. Depicting a young Greek Chysis partially nude and holding an onyx amphora aloft. The bronze mounted on a marble plinth with a nice chocolate brown patina. Signed in the plinth with an incised signature 'A. Guerval' above a faintly incised number 10341 and stamped to the underside of one foot 'JD 22' (possibly for the foundry). Simply a great French Deco bronze sculpture! Date: Early 20th century Overall condition: It is in overall good, as-pictured, used estate condition. Condition details: The onyx amphora is slightly loose in her hand. There are some light chips & fritting to the marble plinth base, chips to the top rim and base of her amphora, some very fine & light surface scratches and other signs of expected light wear consistent with age. Measurements: Height: ca. 13 in. Width: ca. 4 1/4 in. Depth: ca. 3 3/4 in. Items purchased from this dealer must delight you. Purchases may be returned for any reason for a period of 7 days.
