Art Deco Dancer with Comedy & Tragedy Masks, Signed 'Matto' (Marcel Bouraine)

Marcel André Bouraine (1886-1948) 'Lady Dancing with Masks of Comedy & Tragedy'. Silver-gilt bronze sculpture on marble base. Signed 'Matto' to the base - Pseudonym for Marcel Bouraine. Measures: Height 20.5" x width 13" x depth 7". This lively sculpture on stepped marble base, created, circa 1920s by French sculptor Marcel Bouraine, depicts a figure of a lady in silver-gilt bronze, dancing deftly on tiptoes, her loosened dress and hair emphasizing her energetic movement. Holding masks of comedy and tragedy in either hand, she lifts comedy up for her audience to see. Markings include signature [Matto], pseudonym for Marcel Bouraine, to the mottled bronze base, mounted over the marble. This sculpture remains in very good condition, with some presence of natural wear and patina to the silver finish, as well as minor chips to marble.
