Bronze Plaque by Artur Loewental

About the Item

A 1930s bronze plaque of a woman in profile by the German sculptor Artur Imanuel Loewental mounted on a mahogany board with stand. Diameter of bronze 7 inches - 17 cm. Marked: A.LOEWENTAL.F. Artur Immanuel Loewental (1879-1964) was a sculptor who created medals of eminent people in Austria, Germany and Britain. well-known for his series of World War I German commemorative medals, his other subjects included Beethoven, Einstein and Kreisler. Moving to Britain in 1934 - he was an Austrian Jew - his modelling skills with various materials continued to be in demand. The medals he sculpted of Kipling and Churchill achieved great acclaim. His work is in the collections of the Victoria and Albert Museum, The British Museum and the National Trust. Weight: 1.2 kg.
