Chinoiserie Fu Lu Shou Ceramic Chinese Prosperity God Figurine in Blue & White

About the Item

This beautiful blue and white ceramic figurine is of Fu, one of the auspicious Lucky Chinese Gods. They are commonly seen together as a trio which are Fu, Lu, and Shou. Fu is generally depicted in a scholar's dress, holding a scroll, on which is sometimes written the character "Fu". He may also be seen holding a child or surrounded by children. He is sometimes conflated with Caishen, the "Wealth God". This piece is of a bright white ceramic with blue hand-painted details. He has a black beard and red lips. The bottom is unmarked and has a round opening. This piece would be beautiful if displayed on a bookshelf or entry table to bring good luck into the home. Dimensions: 13" Tall 3.5" Deep 5.5" Wide

Popular during the Qing dynasty, rigid headrests such as this were used by upper-class women to protect their elaborate hairstyles by elevating the head during slumber. This example dates to the mid-20th century and is glazed in the blue-and-white style with dark, cobalt-blue color.
