"David, " Large, Superb Bronze with Half-Nude Male Figure by Atkins

About the Item

One of the most finely sculpted and executed bronzes we have ever offered, this 22-inch sculpture portrays David as a handsome, lithe young man, with a small stone in his hand, ready to hurl at Goliath. David is an enormously attractive figure, but everything about the figure is beautifully conceived and executed, including the intricately folded robe around his waist and legs, and the Classical cap upon his head. The sculptor is Albert Henry Atkins, who may be best known for the Coppenhagen Fountain in Everett Square, Boston. He also sculpted a bronze grille for the Cathedral of St. Paul, in St. Paul, Minnesota, as well as a series of small pieces for display in elegant homes.
