Ernst Barlach Plaster 'Russian Peasant Woman and Child'

About the Item

An extremely rare 'preparation painted' for casting model by the great German 'Gothic' Expressionist Ernst Barlach (1870-1938). These sculptures date from young Barlach's 1906 visit to Russia, when the impact of the character of the Russia Peasants so affected him that he chose to pursue life as a sculptor. A photo is attached of Barlach with a larger version of the subject.
