#467 in the Zuniga catalog raisonne. Titled: "Juchiteca Sentada".
Measures: 8 1/2" H x 10 1/2" L x 11 3/4" W (not including the 1 ½" wood plinth).
Signed Zuniga and numbered 111/V. Created 1965.
A Letter of Authenticity issued by the Zuniga foundation (and son Ariel Zuniga)
comes with the piece.
This beautiful bronze is in excellent condition.
Mexican sculptor, printmaker, draughtsman and teacher of Costa Rican birth, Francisco Zuniga (Costa Rica/Mexico 1912-1998) studied sculpture under his father, Manuel Maria Zuniga, in San Jose´, Costa Rica, and after his arrival in Mexico City in 1936 at the Escuela de Talla Directa. Throughout his career Zuniga was especially devoted to the female form.
He availed himself of a variety of methods and materials, modelling in clay and plaster and also working in Carrara marble, alabaster and other kinds of stone. His preferred medium was cast bronze.
