An Intriguing 18th Century Carved Burl Wood Treen Figure, Continental Circa 1740
About the Item
A most fascinating and intriguing hand carved objet d'art of a treen figure in burl wood, exhibiting wonderful form, grain, colour and patina. The underside bearing remnants of an old paper label with hand written script together with the numerals '39, which when also taking into account its design elements suggests a date of 1739.
The origins of this very unusual and pleasingly tactile object are likely either Dutch or possibly Italian.
