John Steck Desert Rose Metal and Stone Vintage Brutalist Sculpture

About the Item

Vintage 1960s metal and stone table top sculpture. “Desert Rose” by John Steck is a timeless floral arrangement of bristly pom-pom blooms emanating from a stone base. The botanical aspects are all made of copper and brass. The flower heads are made of fine metal threads as ethereal as dandelion poofs. Heavily textured torch cut leaves are gathered around the base. The rustic look celebrates the material and medium as much as prominently as the subject. The Brutalist style the “brut” means raw… or unfinished. While other metal sculptures are finely finished and polished, Brutalism shows the artist’s process and unadulterated nature of the material. This Brutalist sculpture shows the appropriate patina.

  • Chrysalis White Alabaster Ebony Soapstone UV Lighted Metaphysical Sculpture
    Located in Chattanooga, TN
"Chrysalis" is based on the shape of a tulip bud and handcrafted from white alabaster, ebony soapstone and green fluorite. One might also interpret the bud as a shell or cocoon. This shape represents a vessel for life, an opportunity for rebirth and transformation. A chrysalis is the pupal stage from which a caterpillar transforms into a butterfly. The base of the bud holds a special secret, a single UV LED diode an ethereal glow, activating the stone and acting as a beacon to draw the viewer in a sacred, transformative, space. Day and night. Duality exists within us all. “Chrysalis” is a sculpture and a healer. In its dormant (unlit) state, the white alabaster cleanses its surroundings, draws spirit to you and evokes forgiveness. This can be internal or external forgiveness. The green fluorite stone at center neutralizes negative energy. Press the switch to initiate the UV light. Like a moth to a flame. The light magnifies the stones power. "Chrysalis" was created by multi-disciplinary artist, Jackie W. Hailing from New York, the classically trained artist explores themes around the genesis of life and our connection to nature and one another. Recent work has focused on sculpture in steel, stone, and found materials natural materials. This sculpture is battery powered and operates on a switch. Measures: 5" wide x 4.75" deep x 10" high Condition: New, created 2021. The black soapstone...
