Large Brass Lingam Cover in the form of a Head, India, 18th Century

About the Item

This brass mustachioed head with incised hair in a tight bun was intended to cover a sacred lingam, a symbol of the energy of God, worshipped throughout India. This fine example is from Western India, probably Maharashtra, 18th-19th century.
