"Memorial", Large Maquette for Art Deco Memorial Monument with Male Nude
About the Item
Unique and powerful, this large plaster maquette for a major monument memorializing the dead, perhaps soldiers lost in World War I, features a trio of Art Deco angels at its pinnacle, a series of elaborate setbacks reminiscent of a New York, skyscraper and a nude male figure midway down the sculpture. This piece was clearly sculpted by a talented artist, whose monogram, "AS" is marked on the base, giving the sculpture great height, and providing a dramatic contrast between clean, unadorned geometric planes and fully realized human figures.
