Pavel Hlava Head Sculpture, 1994

About the Item

Pavel Hlava Head Sculpture, 1994 Pavel Hlava is renowned for using the medium of glass for sculpture. Many of these are made up of cut and polished geometric segments of coloured glass, or are blown and manipulated with hot metal tools such as spikes to create internal protrusions. These question the exterior form and the interior space, and sometimes reference highly abstracted figurative features. This very are sculpture combines all of these aspects. The internal surfaces of the triangular protrusions have also been treated to give a matte, almost 'craggy' dripped effect, making them almost resemble icebergs. Although Hlava produced a series of head sculptures over the years, each one is unique. The form is particularly interesting as not only does it echo traditional portrait sculpture in stone or bronze, but it also echoes his surname - Hlava means 'head' in Czech. Hlava Czechoslovakia '94 on the front of the neck Size: H 22.5cm x W 17cm Condition: Exemplary Restoration: None.
