In 1925, France held the "Exposition des Arts Decoratifs" from which the term Art Deco originates. At the same time Josephine Baker was dancing at the Folies Bergère and was the most famous dancer alive at the time.
Her costumes and sensual dances were the toast of Paris, and high society quickly embraced her as a cultural icon.
It was at this time that S. Melani sculpted this masterpiece - a woman on a Canoe rowing. The design was cast and sold by the iconic ARNOVA in Belgium alongside other marvelous Salvatore Melani works!
A blend of grace, sensuality and Deco style all tied together with a historic theme! Melani worked with live models and it shows in the exquisite and beautiful details!
This sculpture is large - over 20 inches wide! It serves as an accent lamp as well with her "fire bowl" illuminating! Very fine vintage condition!
This is truly one of the finest Salvatore Melani sculptures in existence.
