Spanish Colonial 1800 Saint Joseph Filigree Reliquary .900 Silver Gold & Emerald

About the Item

A Spanish colonial reliquary with St. Joseph. A very rare early Spanish colonial large pendant in the shape of a reliquary, created in the Americas back in the late 18th century. It was crafted in three dimensions with gorgeous details in fine filigree and multiples assembled parts made up in solid .900/.999 silver. It is embellished on top with four Colombian emeralds denoting its possible origin. The four sides are decorated with four windows made in thick engraved glass with beveled borders and is fitted on top with a large movable ring to wear in a bold thick chain or possible a rosary. The base is fitted with five stands to be displayed in a small altar or a table. In the interior of the reliquary, stand a detailed sculpture of the figure of Saint Joseph, bearded, dressed with a toga and holding the child Christ. All made in repousse yellow gold. The gold's alloy is undetermined but we are assuming is a high karat gold because the religious thematic, most probably 22 karats or higher. Saint Joseph He is well known as the patron saint of fathers, both families and virgins, workers, especially carpenters, expecting mothers and unborn children. Among many others, he is the patron saint of attorneys and barristers, emigrants, travelers and house hunters. On the way to Bethlehem before the birth of the Child, as well as the flight to Egypt to protect the child Jesus from Herod's evil intent, St. Joseph is the Safeguard of the Holy Family. He is also the Safeguard of Families that make up the Church, the body of Christ. Unlike most private revelation, the “miracle of St. Joseph” boldly claims to be the source of new doctrinal revelation. The “miracle” is the heretofore unrevealed belief that St. Joseph is the incarnation of the Holy Spirit, as fully God as Jesus Christ.
