Javanese 19th Century Large Carved Teak Architectural Panel With Foliage Motifs

About the Item

A large late 19th century Javanese deeply carved teak architectural panel with foliate design. This hand-carved teak architectural panel showcasing carved foliage motifs comes from the island of Java, where it was made during the late 19th Century. The panel adopts an elegant dentate crest, which merges into the carved flowers of the front. These flowers are made with finesse, with many carved details on their petals and leafs. The flowers are carved with so much precision that it is possible to recognize peonies. The deep carving creates a gorgeous effect of light and shadow which accentuates the various patterns beautifully. Originally set inside an architectural structure, this superbly carved Javanese 19th century teak panel would be a perfect decorative item in most rooms, especially in a luminous place where light could play off with the relief.
