Coade Stone Mounted Caryatid Sculpture. Eleanor Coade was a British businesswoman known for manufacturing Neoclassical statues, architectural decorations and garden ornaments made of Coade stone from 1769.     This sculpture grouping is a maquette to the "Caryatids" grouping and was created in 1976 by listed American artist Gerald Digiusto. The inspiration for Gerald Digiusto to create these was found in a grouping of female form columns located at the Erechtheion in ancient Greece on the north side of the Acropolis of Athens. These were produced from zinc plates Gerald's work can be found in many Museum, public and private collections. Gerald's work can also currently be seen in the new book titled American Beauty by Thom Filicia and in the November 2012 issue of House Beautiful Gerald Digiusto was born June 30, 1929 in New York City, the son of immigrant Italian and Jewish parents. He grew up in Boston, and as a young man served a stone carving apprenticeship in Quincy, Massachusetts.
