Indian Chief Hood Ornament Guy Motors. British, circa 1920s
By Guy Motors
Located in Incline Village, NV
Actual original hood ornament of an Indian in full head dress, entitled and embossed "Feathers in Our Cap". Guy Motors embossed at the front base. The automobile manufacturer "Guy Motors" was established in 1914 in Wolverhampton, England in 1914. They adopted the slogan "Feathers in Our CAP" with the Native American motif in full head dress in 1924. They went into receivership in 1932 so the CAP dates from right around that era. There are many reproductions of this CAP; usually of brass and almost always smaller dimensions. This is an original as opposed to a reproduction; note the smooth casting and detailed head dress and accurate embossed markings. Also note the original cast dimensions of; 4 3/8" high x 3 3/4" wide x 3 1/2" deep. My example is nickel plated versus brass or shiny chrome.
Provenance: The George Cross Collection of Native American items...
