How did the blue lace layers come about? Remarkably, agates typically form within bubbles or cavities in volcanic basalt. Over time, these are filled with water rich in silica. As the water gradually evaporates, it leaves behind a layer of silica gel, which eventually solidifies into a distinct layer. This process is painstakingly slow, and varying impurities in each layer result in diverse colored bands. Fascinating, isn't it?

It's just amazing: agates normally form inside bubbles or cavities of igneous (volcanic) basalt and, over time, are filled with layers of water with high concentrations of silica. The water is slowly evaporated, forming a layer of silica gelatin and then a layer is formed. It is a very slow process and each layer contains different impurities, thus forming different colored bands. Fantastic, right? ▫️ Lace Agate with Druzy Geode on Stand...Category

Feel free to send us a message! Have you ever wondered how these mesmerizing blue lace layers formed? Agates typically form within gas bubbles or cavities in igneous (volcanic) rock like basalt. Over time, these cavities fill with layers of silica-rich water. As the water slowly evaporates, it leaves behind a layer of silica gel, which eventually hardens into a solid layer. This process repeats, with each layer potentially containing different impurities that contribute to the variation in color we see in the agate's bands.
