Fine Pair of Antique Russian Amethyst Cut Crystal Vases in Dore Bronze Mounts

About the Item

A fine pair of Antique Russian of Amethyst cut crystal vases in doré bronze mounts. As so often happens, the artisans of the 19th century turned to nature for inspiration. Here we see the fire of precious amethyst captured in glass. The glass was faceted (much like a jewel) and mounted in gilded bronze. The advent of new manufacturing methods and improved transportation opened the world marketplace to creators worldwide. Gilt bronze-mounted objects became required decoration for homes and palaces. Their appeal is undiminished today.
