Pair of English Victorian Renaissance Revival Cast Bronze Ewers

About the Item

These large and very detailed Renaissance Revival cast bronze decorative ewers come from England and were made circa 1870. The body of the vases are divided into oval plaques representing allegorical scenes from the past all surrounded by arabesques in low relief. The spouts are formed of sea monsters faces and the handles are winged female bodies. The larger section of the ewers rests again on male and female naked bodies that winged that rest on oddly webbed bird-like feet which stand on a webbed circular base also covered in arabesque designs. Finally, the metalwork sits atop an impressive Belgium black marble base. The pair have very good patina and nice rub thrus highlighting the dramatic design.

  • Pair of Patinated and Polished Bronze Renaissance Revival Candelabra
    Located in Hudson, NY
This pair of candelabra made in France, circa 1880 are designed in the Renaissance Revival style. Well cast in a large number of separate parts and patinated and polished to create drama and decorative detail the pair is of a nice scale without being overly large. Cast as a central column raised on a pyramidal pierced base. The base is centered by grotesque masks and foliate sprays raised up on feet. The shaft leads up to four large branched arms also cast with corresponding foliate sprays issuing from more grotesques. The combination of color and casting create a lively play of light.
