About the Item

An ancient Egyptian stone vessel/jar, Old Kingdom, 2600-2800 BCE. This is an original lime stone jar from the time of the pyramid builders, these vessels where hand carved with the use of sand and sometimes rudimentary drills. The squat ovoid vessel having a raised rim with twin perforated lug handles. Guaranteed with a C.O.A. Provenance; from the collection of Mr. Lawrence A. Fleischman (1925-1997), president of the Kennedy Galleries New York and celebrated collector of antiquities and American art, passed by descent to his daughter, Rebecca.

    A large hand-blown early glass vessel by the celebrated Pacific Northwest glass artist, Sonja Blomdahl (b. 1952), signed & numbered, 1980's. In 1974 Blomdahl got her degree from Massachusetts College of Art & studied under sculptor Dan Dailey. She then trained at the Orrefors glassworks in Sweden, Venetian glass master Checco Ongaro taught Blomdahl the method of double-bubble blowing (or incalmo), of which this large vessel is a great example of. In 1978, Blomdahl served as a teaching assistant at the Pilchuck Glass School (Stanwood, Washington) she has held teaching positions at the Pratt Fine Arts Center in Seattle; Haystack Mountain School of Crafts in Deer Isle, Maine; and the Appalachian Center in Smithville, Tennessee. Blomdahl's first solo exhibition was at the Traver Sutton Gallery in Seattle in 1981. She opened her own studio in Seattle in 1983 which remained open until 2009.     A good pair of large antique Japanese Meiji period porcelain lidded jars, circa 1880. The jars having ribbed dome shaped lids topped with lion-dog (Komainu) finials, the baluster shaped jars also of corresponding ribbed form.
