MacIntyre Moorcroft 'Poppy' Patterned Art Pottery Tobacco or Dresser Jar
About the Item
This antique art pottery covered tobacco or dresser jar was made by the James MacIntyre company of England, under the design direction of William Moorcroft, in circa 1890 in the period Victorian style. The jar is done in a deep mustard ground with deep red poppies and deep green accents. The art pottery threaded lid is done in matching glaze and decoration and fastens securely to the base with a slight twist. This jar could have been made as either a tobacco or dresser jar, although most of those identified as tobacco jars have different lid styles. The jar is clearly marked on the underside of the base with the MacIntyre maker's mark.
