The enamel Chinese and the gilt bronze French, 19th century
Measures: Height 40cm, width 53cm, depth 30cm.
This Chinoiserie style jardinière features a beautiful cloisonné enamel body—the enamel from China—mounted with French gilt bronze. The enamel body features a variety of floral and animal forms, each wrought in a distinctive Chinese manner and set above the deep blue enamel ground. This ground is further decorated with gold cloisonné wire set in an abstracted, geometric sequence of patterns. The enamel body is set above a pierced gilt bronze base and is mounted along the rim with a pierced gallery. Most strikingly, the sides of the body are mounted with twin Chinese dragon-form gilt bronze handles.
