Accolay 1960 French Mid-Century Gauloise Blue Ceramic Vase

About the Item

Magnificent Accolay serie Gauloise belly vase recognizable by its inimitable shade of blue, in excellent condition, The signature incised under the vase. This series, called "Gauloise" in reference to the color of the cigarette pack of the same name, is inspired by ancient ceramics discovered in Burgundy. The potters of Accolay or the story of a great community adventure started in 1944 by a group of four friends, all students of Alexandre Kostanda. A first bell kiln allows the manufacture of jewelry and ceramic buttons. In 1945, Christian Dior ordered 300 for his “New Look” collection. It was the beginning of a success story that would end in 1983. For more than 20 years, a type of pottery flourished in Accolay, combining the diversity of objects - masks, jewelry, toys... - and that of materials - ceramics, glass , plant fibres, etc.
