Antique Early Meiji Japanese Cloisonne Vases Night and Day

About the Item

A pair of antique Japanese vases from the early Meiji period. Two vases represent Day and Night and are decorated with polychrome enamel using the cloisonne technique. Two vases that make up a set have the same design but slight differences in details. The inner surface of the neck of the first vase is white, it is a Day. The inner surface of the neck of the second vase is black, it is a Night. The surface of the vases are decorated with contour flying petals, and images of butterflies, flowers and small birds on a turquoise ground. Unmarked.
