Art Deco Ceramic Vase by Orchies
About the Item
Very rare stylish minimalistic ceramic Art Deco vase by famous faience factory company "Orchies" founded by two brothers L'Herminé Declercq, Emile and Joseph in Orchies (in Flanders) in 1886 because Emile, owner of a pottery in Rebaix in Belgium, wanted to increase his production by creating a new company. It should be noted that Orchies is located near the village of Saint-Amand-les-Eaux, famous for its earthenware and where the Moulin des Loups factory was based, since the 18th century.
In 1904 the production of Orchies earthenware became more artistic under the name L'Herminé et Cie. The OLD mark found on the objects thus represents Orchies L'Herminé Declerq.
In 1923 the factories of Orchies and Hamage merged under the name Moulin des Loups & Hamage.
The company's new brand is a windmill with the name Orchies in capitals.
Between 1920 and 1970 production increased considerably and the number of workers increased from 175 to over 500. The factory closed in the 1980s.
